Society for Equine-Assisted Services Nova Scotia

SEASNS

We launched SEASNS in 2025 to bring equine-assisted services to Nova Scotians across the province, provide a standard of service for clients, and help support new
EAS service providers. Growing from Hinchinbrook Farm Society, which was founded in 2010 by Patricia and a group of parents, with programming run by Patricia McGill out of her location at Blockhouse, Nova Scotia. At the blockhouse location, we’ve been helping kids with mental, cognitive, emotional and physical disabilities access their fullest potential through therapeutic riding. Now, we’re taking that magic province-wide.

Our Mission: We’re here to make EAS accessible to everyone who can benefit from the transformative human-horse relationship, with a focus on safety, quality, and equity, inspired by Hinchinbrook’s heart-centered approach.

Our story

Awareness: We’re sharing the incredible benefits of EAS—like better communication, mobility, and emotional health—with communities and professionals.

Access: We’re expanding EAS to every county, working with partners like Hinchinbrook Farm, Halifax Lancers, and Free Spirit Therapeutic Riding Association.

Quality: We’re committed to safe, high-standard programs that care for both participants and horses.

Training: We’re helping providers get certified through CanTRA and PATH International.

Equity: We aspire to connect with African Nova Scotians, Mi’kmaq communities, new Canadians, and people with disabilities to ensure that those who may benefit the most from EAS, and those who may otherwise struggle to access it, are given opportunity to do so.

Relationships: We’re building partnerships with organizations and communities to connect participants with access to EAS, to provide support and training for new and existing service providers, recruit and train the volunteers supporting these efforts, and identify funding opportunities to support our work.

What we stand for

Our Roots:

We’re proud of our beginnings at Hinchinbrook Farm Society in Blockhouse, where we served approximately 40 children and 25 families with the help of 50+ volunteers for many years. The outdoor space, with its sensory-rich paddock, wooded trails, pea gravel boat, campfire pits, and trampoline, created a welcoming place for all. Now, we’re building on that foundation to serve all of Nova Scotia, while continuing to also support the services at the Blockhouse location.

Our Roots

Nova Scotia.”
